Dear Sir or Madam,

The World Health Summit is just around the corner and once again brings issues of global health into focus in the Berlin-Brandenburg healthcare region. However, this important exchange amongst stakeholders from all around the world is just one aspect of the diverse activities and initiatives around the issue of global health that come from the capital region. The opening of the “WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence” in Berlin at the beginning of September shows that the region is developing into a hub for global health - in politics, business and research. Find out more about the activities and get to know the players promoting the issue in our focus topic.

We’re also already looking ahead to 2022: preparations for the next BIONNALE, which will take place on 11 May 2022, are already in full swing. Mark the date in your diary and get ready for exciting insights, both into regional and global activities in our region!

Interview: Questions to Dr. Jörg Heldmann, Managing Director of the Charité subsidiary WHS Foundation GmbH on the World Health Summit

The World Health Summit was founded in 2009 in Berlin. How did it come about and what role did Berlin play?

However, it very quickly evolved towards global topics, i.e. global health. The World Health Summit was, incidentally, successful from the very beginning: thanks to its international network, Charité was able to attract a huge number of experts, with over 1,000 participants from all around the world attending the first event.
